THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF HIV MEDICINE OFFERS INNOVATIVE ACCREDITED CONTINUING EDUCATION ACTIVITY THROUGH MAGAZINE

WASHINGTON, DC: For the first time, the American Academy of HIV Medicine is offering continuing education (CE) through an article published in its flagship magazine, HIV Specialist, to add to the ways that providers can access timely, evidence-based HIV-related education.

The Fall 2022 edition of the magazine features a CE-accredited article, based on one of the highest-rated sessions from the 16th Annual American Conference for the Treatment of HIV  held in May 2022. The article covers mental health and substance use in people with HIV, and how the HIV care team can better support their patients’ needs.

“We want to offer HIV care providers the widest range of CE that we can, and we want to make sure we offer these learning opportunities in ways that meet their education needs,” says Bruce J. Packett, Executive Director of the American Academy of HIV Medicine. “By offering CE in our magazine, we’re giving providers another way to stay up-to-date on HIV care that might be more accessible or convenient for them.”

HIV Specialist is a quarterly practice management magazine that addresses the unique issues facing frontline HIV care clinicians in the United States. The readership is comprised of clinicians with the highest volume of HIV patients in the country as well as policymakers, industry leaders, students, educators, and researchers.

The magazine’s editorial focus provides readers with credible and useful information to help them care for HIV patients across the nation. Each issue covers a specific theme that is top-of-mind for HIV practitioners in the many settings they serve, with helpful and actionable information for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists alike.

The Academy worked in partnership with the American Academy of CME (AACME) to convert the conference’s session into a CE-accredited article. The AACME is an independent nonprofit medical education organization that helps to provide accredited continuing education. The organization is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center, to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
