The Dr. Dawn K. Smith HIV Prevention Clinical Fellowship class of 2025 is comprised of seven clinicians who are dedicated to increasing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) awareness and use in under-resourced communities and in populations with higher HIV transmission rates. Jaimee K. Colvin, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, is the current provider at Carl Bean Men’s Health & Wellness Center. With over 20 years of nursing experience, Jaimee honed her clinical expertise in critical care settings, including the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU) and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). She received her Master of Nursing degree from Indiana Wesleyan University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and as a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Her dedication to advancing health equity, particularly for underserved communities, underscores her lifelong commitment to service, education and advocacy in health care. Beyond her clinical achievements, Jaimee has excelled as an educator, public speaker, philanthropist and mentor.

Mallory Deel, MSN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, is a dually certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in holistic, patient-centered care. She earned her Family Nurse Practitioner certification in 2020 and her Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification in 2023. She currently practices at Recovery Mobile Clinic, a mobile health care service that utilizes RV units to deliver care directly to underserved and vulnerable populations across Southeast Michigan, including unhoused individuals and those with limited access to traditional health care settings. Her clinical work includes primary care, mental health services, and specialized treatment for substance use disorders. Mallory is passionate about integrating physical and mental health services to support long-term recovery and wellness. Her approach emphasizes accessibility, compassion and whole-person care.

Andrea P. Dunn, PharmD, BCPPS, HIVPCP, is a Board-Certified Pediatric Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with more than 15 years of hospital experience. She currently works at AdventHealth for Children and is the Founder and Executive Director at Let’s Beehive!® Inc. Dr. Dunn received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Howard University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science Education, with a minor in Community Health, from the University of Florida. She is passionate about ending the HIV epidemic, with an emphasis on Black heterosexual women and underserved youth. Since 2015, she has provided HIV/STI education and prevention services to thousands of people using unique “bee-themed” branded programs, such as the Queen Bee® HIV Prevention Program and Stinging Stigma™.

Bethany Johnson, PharmD, BCIDP, currently serves as the HIV/HCV/STI Pharmacy Consultant in the Division of Clinical & Community Services at the Indian Health Services (IHS). She supports IHS, Tribal, and Urban health facilities in enhancing syndemic care. Her contributions include assisting with point-of-care testing events, collaborating on policy development to support incentive programs for syndemic care, and partnering with Tribal and Urban health facilities as cooperative agreement recipients to advance syndemic care nationally. Dr. Johnson earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, graduating summa cum laude. She is dedicated to improving health outcomes for the communities she serves by integrating pharmacists into syndemic care, expanding PrEP access and advocating for patient­centered interventions.

Anshel Kenkare, MD, is a second year Internal Medicine resident in the Primary Care and Social Medicine track at Montefiore Moses and Weiler campuses. Dr. Kenkare completed medical school at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, where he was co-president of the Refugee Health Partners and co-founder of the Infectious Disease Interest Group. During residency, he has trained in asylum assessments, buprenorphine induction, and is a part of the medical education track. He is interested in increasing access to PrEP for refugee and immigrant communities, the future of long acting injectable PrEP, and academic HIV primary care.

Nikita Shaneka Pete, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, currently practices as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, where she provides compassionate, evidence-based care to incarcerated youth. In addition to her clinical work, she serves as an adjunct professor at both the University of South Carolina College of Nursing and Claflin University, where she mentors and educates future generations of nurses through hands-on clinical instruction. Dr. Pete earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of South Carolina. With a strong clinical foundation and a passion for community-based care, Dr. Pete specializes in HIV prevention and treatment, serving as a dedicated advocate for underserved and vulnerable populations

Julia Vermeulen, MSN, CNM-BC, WHNP-BC, has been a midwife since 2020 and currently works in reproductive health at a federally qualified health center in Tucson, Arizona, that serves over one in seven Tucsonans. Whether providing gender-affirming hormone therapy, STI screening, or prenatal and birth care, advocacy and education are the cornerstones of her practice. She is a member of the International Society for the Study of Women’s Sexual Health (ISSWSH) and received her Master of Science in Nursing from the Yale School of Nursing, with a concentration in Gender and Sexuality Health Justice. She is especially passionate about providing trauma-informed sexual and reproductive care to people who use drugs and to LGBTQ+ populations.
